Instruction: This activity aims to enhance accuracy with ‘participle clause’, a sentence pattern that usually expresses causal relations or time sequence in academic writing. In combining two sentences, only one complex sentence is correct. Choose the correct answer. 

1. Children are exposed to repeated failure. Children tend to develop increasingly negative attitudes towards reading.
